Here are my exact settings and the gear used to capture my POV Driving videos. These settings gives a sensation of speed with cinematic motion blur and clean, aggressive engine and exhaust audio with minimal setup and fuss.
Gear I use:
K&F Concepts Neutral Density (ND) filters
This setup focuses on daytime, sunrise, or sunset videos. I’ll be adding a NIGHT POV VIDEO cheat sheet soon!
There are two menus to set your video settings: The Bottom Swipe Menu and the Right Tap menu.
Bottom Swipe Menu: Swipe up from the bottom to access these settings
| Setting: | Value: | Notes: |
|---|---|---|
| Mode | Video | |
| Aspect Ratio | 16:9 | The wider the better. Seeing the scenery fly by on the outside corners of the video make it look faster. |
| Stability | Rocksteady Off | I turn off stability to capture the bumps. It makes the footage appear more chaotic and faster. |
| Wide Angle | Ultra Wide | The wider the better. Seeing the scenery fly by on the outside corners of the video make it look faster. |
| Resolution | 4K | 4K for maximum resolution. |
| fps | 30 | This is the most compatible with IG, TikTok, YouTube and social media. |
Right Tap Menu>Camera Icon: Tap the right of the main screen and select the camera icon.
| Setting: | Value: | Notes: |
|---|---|---|
| Exposure | Manual | Setting this to manual will allow you to set the shutter and ISO. |
| Shutter | 1/60 | You want a long enough shutter to capture some motion blur to give that sense of speed. In general, follow the 180° rule: take your frame rate and double it. So at 30fps, if 30*2=60, then your shutter speed should be at 1/60. I sometimes use 1/50! |
| ISO | 100 - 1600 | Too high an ISO and you will get a lot of grain. Too low and your video could be dark at night or in the shade. I keep it at 100-800 ISO for daytime, and 100-3200 ISO for night time. |
| WB (White Balance) | 5800K | Most cameras lean towards blue in the shade. I like my videos a little warm. So I lock it in at in the warmer end. The higher the number, the warmer(yellow/orange). The lower the number, the cooler (blue). |
| Color | D-LogM 10bit | Shooting in D-LogM makes everything flat, allowing for more flexibility in coloring later. If you don’t want or have the time to color, just leave this at default. |
| Color Recovery | On | This will show you a full color video preview on your camera in real time. Other wise, with D-LogM enabled, it will look very flat. This doesn’t affect the video at all, just how it is displayed in your DJI’s live view. I keep this on so I can adjust the color temp and exposure properly. |
| Variable Aperture | Starburst (f/4) | An option on the Action 6. With the shutter at 1/60 or more, we need a smaller aperture to not overexpose the shots. |
| Image Adjustment | Texture: -1, | |
| Noise Reduction: -2 | I prefer to keep these as low as possible for the highest quality video and adjust in post. |
